I Heart Jordy

My friend Maddie has really lovely things and is constantly the envy of everyone around her because of this. Today, I was particularly envious of this ring she was wearing. It is a Jordy by Jordan Askill single heart ring in white gold and she bought this gorgeous little thing at The New Guard on Unley Rd, Unley. Jordan Askill is a very talented designer out of Sydney who has designed for Ksubi and now has his own collection of jewellery pieces and sculpture. His entire collection is rather stunning and pays homage to fine jewellery methods of the past, nostalgia of youth creating something very modern, honest and fresh. Be sure to check out his sculptures when you visit his site.

If you like his pieces, head down to The New Guard. It will surely be a treat. However, enter with caution. This store is for people with plenty of dosh to slosh (unlike myself). It would be wise to adopt the mantra, "Look, but don't touch"

Become a Saver...in ADELAIDE?!

Yes, it's true, Adelaide now has a huge Savers Superstore located on David Witton Drive in Noarlunga. About time too. We Adelaideians have been deprived of this second hand haven for far too long. My friend Maddie and I ventured over to Noarlunga this morning to be there for the 10am open and did not leave until 1pm. Madness. We decided we had gone well and truly Savers crazy when Maddie decided she needed furniture...furniture for only $7, mind you! With prices this cheap, why wouldn't you?

Do your bit for the environment and buy recycled, Adelaide.

Also, South Australia being the environmentally aware state that it is, take your own bags...lots of them. You'll need them.

Summer Camp: summer love

Summer Camp are a band that passed me by in 2010, which I am damn ashamed of. Today I picked out their EP, Young, purely because I liked the cover art which depicts a polaroid photograph of some sweet (yet dorky) 70s youths at a dance. I was pleasantly surprised by the tracks on this record too! As the band name, album title and cover art suggests, their music is every part nostalgic. Listening to it, puff sleeves, scrunchies and dunlops come to mind, as do faded polaroids of times past. Their sound is a blur of classic pop/ folktronica, with use of synths and echoey vocals on most tracks. Elizabeth Sanky has a voice that can be compared to a young Debbie Harris and Jeremy Warmsley is, well, he's Jeremy Warmsley isn't he? 'Nuff said.

Dreams Come True at ACMI

I recently 'lost' myself in Melbourne for a few days and while I was there, I made sure I visited the ACMI to see the Walt Disney Exhibition, Dreams Come True. I have to admit, I was rather indifferent to the idea of seeing unfinished sketches of Snow White or Ariel, but upon leaving I definitely had a different appreciation for the iconic films. Did you know that when Snow White was made in 1938, it took 24 frames (that's 24 different progressive sketches) per SECOND? I sure didn't. You too can discover some neat facts about the Godfather of animation and his films for only $12. You can get your tickets here. The exhibition finishes on April 26 2011, so if you're in Melbourne around this time, get on it.
Oh, and I highly recommend taking a little friend. It will make the experience all the more magical.
